Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens was sworn in on January 5 at the Georgia State University Convocation Center, beginning his second four-year term before a standing-room only audience of city leaders, residents, and community stakeholders.

Mayor Dickens took the oath of office alongside Atlanta municipal judges and members of the Atlanta City Council in a ceremony that underscored both continuity in leadership and renewed momentum for the city's future.

Georgia State University President M. Brian Blake welcomed attendees and thanked the mayor for his commitment to the youth and beautifying the city. Blake credited several of the mayor's initiatives as contributing factors to Georgia State's distinction as the university graduating the most number of Black students in the nation.

Mayor Dickens won re-election with 85 percent of the vote. In his address, he thanked the city for joining him in embracing the city as a "team effort."

The mayor reported significant gains over the last four years. Atlanta strengthen its public safety and reduced violent crime. According to Dickens, the city had fewer than 100 homicides in 2025--the largest drop in crime the city has seen in decades.

Addressing longstanding challenges, Mayor Dickens invoked the Biblical story of David and Goliath, likening Atlanta to David confronting the giant forces of poverty and inequality. He identified the city's five smooth stones as expanding affordable housing, investing in neighborhoods, creating opportunities for the youth, strengthening public safety, and upholding ethical and effective government.

Mayor Dickens closed by reaffirming his administration's long-term vision, declaring that Atlanta will continue to be "the best place to live, start a business, start a career, and the most educated city in America."
