Atlanta’s 61st mayor, Andre Dickens, has secured a second term in office after winning the Nov. 4 mayoral election with more than 50 % of the vote.

Dickens officially launched his re‑election bid by filing his paperwork in August, pledging to build on achievements from his first term such as reducing crime, increasing affordable housing, and preparing the city for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

During his first term, Dickens highlighted a 26 % drop in homicides from 2022 to 2024, expanded the city’s solar energy portfolio, and spearheaded construction of over 11,000 affordable housing units — all part of his “next chapter” vision if re‑elected.

While Dickens faced criticism on issues including water infrastructure, oversight of the Office of Inspector General, and opposition to the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center (dubbed “Cop City”), no high‑profile challenger emerged. His incumbency and broad political backing made his re‑election bid significantly easier.

Looking ahead to his second term, Dickens has set ambitious goals: build or preserve 20,000 affordable units by 2030, transition Atlanta to 100 % clean energy by 2035, upgrade critical infrastructure, and deliver a successful FIFA World Cup experience.

Dickens told supporters, “We built the foundation, and we must keep moving the city forward together,” finishing his remarks with a call to action: “All eyes are on Atlanta.”
