At just 21, Jayden Williams has made history as the youngest mayor in Stockbridge, Georgia. A senior studying political science at Clark Atlanta University, Williams ran on a platform called “Ready to Lead Together,” promising fresh energy, community engagement, and innovative solutions for the city.

Williams’ path to leadership combines student activism with real-world experience. On campus, he served as freshman class president and treasurer of student government. Off campus, he chaired the Stockbridge Planning Commission and led the Georgia chapter of the NAACP Youth & College Division, blending civic involvement with policy know-how. Inspired by his grandmother, former Henry County Commissioner Vivian Thomas, Williams emphasizes that leadership is about service and impact, not age.

As mayor, Williams has outlined key priorities: expanding affordable housing, supporting small and minority-owned businesses, and creating youth programs focused on education and technology. He believes investing in people is the most effective way to strengthen Stockbridge’s future.

“It’s not about age,” Williams said. “It’s about the heart to serve, the courage to lead, and the will to make change happen.”

Williams’ election reflects a new generation of leadership emerging from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and signals a city ready for innovation, inclusivity, and renewed community focus.
